FAB Story

Story Of FAB Underwear It’s now several years since I visited the Fashion Summit in Copenhagen for the first time. Then and there I understood how bad it really is with environmental destruction around the world, and that the textile industry is one of the worst culprits.

The image that stuck in my mind showed a man standing out in the water, in a full body suit to protect himself from the poisoned water. The picture was taken from a perspective where, from the shore, women were seen washing their families’ clothes, and where their children were bathing.

The image of a man in a full environmental protection suit just of the shore away from women washing their families clothes while their children bathe in the same water he is protected from with the suit was an example of what is wrong. The illness they could get from the toxins in water, that he was protecting himself from was exemplary of the industry and what is wrong with it. We protect ourselves from the toxins we force them to expose themselves to for us.

I myself have always loved shopping for clothing, the more I learned over the years about the environment and the major problems caused by the textile industry, has led me to shopping sustainably. I now do this by either clothes of good quality and durable or second hand vintage clothing. With this concept, we can maintain our love for shopping while saving the environment.

But there are still some types of clothing that we will not buy second hand such as underwear. So I thought that since we are not going to buy them second hand, why not buy them made out of recycled materials instead?! Then we can still buy and use knitted garments in polyamide or polyester. When they are recycled, they have a kinder, gentler manufacturing process towards the environment.

I have also learned that not all plastics can be recycled, so at FAB Underwear we are careful that our packaging is made from recycled material and/or is completely recyclable. We use packaging to store other things, or throw them in the plastic recycling bin, as we have made them both attractive and more environmentally friendly for recycling purposes, preserving the future.

So we can still make underwear in stylish, comfortable and luxurious tricot materials, which breathe and feel super nice against the skin. Like a second skin.
